Hi! My name is Alex and this is my photo journal. I've got a gardening journal and a personal journal here too.

I don't know if this is quite what you had in mind but I've self-published a couple of photo books through I'm working on a 3rd one at the moment. When I started my first book I looked for information about different POD presses and ended up going with Blurb. I've been impressed with the quality of the books I've ordered. I'm happy with how they've turned out and how they look.

The down side to POD is that you have to do your own selling and public relations. I haven't had much time for this part of it unfortunately so haven't actually sold any yet!

I enjoyed writing in school and after (short stories and the occasional poem) but have focused more on my photography as a creative outlet. I have struggled to figure out what to write under my images in my photo books. My current project is mostly an editorial photo essay about our local cemetery, the dilapidated graves & how people have moved away from their grief and caring for their family plots. While most of the book is about the images and the story they tell, I've sprinkled some history and thoughts throughout. I've found my writing stretched as I've had to do research about the cemetery and have had to tackle the question of what resources can I use, how can I use them and how do I get permission to use them. I'm still in process with this, but have had an email today to give me permission to use the info from one resource.

So that's me in a quick nutshell. I'm here to learn, to see what other people who self-publish do, what hurdles they have & how they overcome them.

Hi! I am the moderator here. :) I guess I'll say something first so there's something here when people, hopefully, begin to join.

I have been writing for well over a decade now. Half of that was spent in fanfiction, the other half writing my own stuff. At the beginning of this year, I -- along with my husband and my co-author -- formed an LLC and imprint to print our own writings under. We also chose to invite other authors to contribute to our twice yearly anthologies.

Mainly, I write erotic romance. Male/male, female/female, and polyamorous groups. I write in the fantasy, contemporary, and paranormal genres mostly. My co-author and I just finished the manuscript for our first novel, Rachmaninoff, and it's with the proofreaders before it will head to the editor. That novel will be available in December of this year.

It's been a learning experience, I'll say that. How to set up our own imprint, how to negotiate contracts, who to ask for help from, and when to admit we are not experts and therefore need to seek out the experts and pay them to do what they do best.

So, that's about it for me. Short, sweet, and only the highlights, but that's me.
